Zion Williamson will get a shot to play against the nation’s best players.
On Tuesday, Williamson was selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game. He will play on the East squad.
The game will be held March 28 at Atlanta’s Phillips Arena.
Williamson is the first player from South Carolina since Spring Valley’s P.J. Dozier (2015) and 12th overall to be selected to play in the game. Rivals and 247Sports rank Williamson as the third-ranked prospect in the country while ESPN has him at No. 2.
Williamson missed six weeks with a foot bruise this season but had 36 points and seven rebounds Saturday in his second game back against Chino Hills (Calif.) at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass. Through four games this season, he is averaging 35 points, including a season-high 41 points against Christ School.
All eyes will be on Williamson on Saturday as he announces his college choice at 8 p.m. in a ceremony at Spartanburg Day. The announcement will be carried on ESPN.
Williamson said after Thursday’s game against Asheville Christian that his recruiting is wide open. He has taken official visits to Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky and Kansas and unofficial visits to Clemson, South Carolina and Wofford.
Duke and Kansas lead the way with three McDonald’s All-American selections apiece.
