RICHLAND COUNTY, SC
From the story of children kidnapped from their parents and put up for adoption to the musical about the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton, these are the works that made Richland County residents laugh, cry and think — again and again — in 2018.
Richland Library this week released its list of the most checked-out items in 2018.
Leading the list of the most checked-out adult books is a novel that takes place partly in South Carolina: “Before We Were Yours.”
The novel by former journalist Lisa Wingate tells the story of two families in 1930s Memphis and present-day Aiken, S.C., according to an overview on the library’s website. It’s based on the notorious real-life scandal of Georgia Tann, the director of an adoption agency in Memphis who kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families across the country.
