A national chain known for fast Chinese food and other Asian dishes has its eyes on a spot in Lexington County.
Panda Express, which has thousands of restaurants across the U.S., is planning a location at Platt Springs Road and Old Orangeburg Road in the Red Bank area of Lexington County, according to paperwork from the Lexington County Planning Commission’s October agenda. That would be in the multi-use Platt Springs Crossing development that is coming to that site.
The Platt Springs Crossing project encompasses nearly 60 acres in Red Bank and was announced earlier this year. It will ultimately include a host of commercial businesses, as well as a residential component, developers have said. The development is across the street from a Publix grocery store, as well as a Chick-fil-A that opened in 2022 and a Wendy’s that opened in August. Among other things, a Whataburger has plans to go on the site, as does a Tidal Wave Auto Spa car wash.
Panda Express was founded in 1983, per its website. It has more than 2,300 stores, 47,000 employees and $3 billion in sales. It is the largest family-owned and operated Asian dining concept in America, according to the company’s website. Panda Express has two locations in Columbia, including one on Forest Drive and another on Killian Road in the northeast.
The restaurant carries a number of well-known Chinese and Asian dishes, perhaps most notably the orange chicken, which it touts as its signature offering.
